This Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) applies to everyone who uses CoffmanHost hosting, email, or website services. It is part of our Terms of Service. Our servers are shared, so one account’s misuse can hurt every other customer. That is why we take this policy seriously.
Not allowed
- Illegal content or activity, including material that infringes copyrights or trademarks, and anything that is illegal under US law.
- Spam: sending unsolicited bulk or commercial email, using purchased or scraped mailing lists, or hosting sites advertised by spam.
- Phishing, fraud, and malware: impersonating others, collecting credentials, or hosting or spreading viruses, ransomware, or other malicious code.
- Attacks and abuse: port scanning, brute-force login attempts, denial-of-service attacks, or trying to access accounts, systems, or data that are not yours, including other customers’ files on our servers.
- Harmful content: child sexual abuse material (which we report to authorities), content that threatens or harasses people, or content that promotes violence.
- Resource abuse: cryptocurrency mining, running open proxies or VPNs, public file-sharing or backup storage unrelated to your website, or scripts that use an unreasonable share of CPU, memory, or disk.
- Reselling our services without our written agreement.
Fair use
Plans are sold with “unmetered” traffic, which means we do not charge by the gigabyte. It does not mean unlimited use of a shared server. If a site uses enough resources to affect other customers, we will contact you to discuss options such as optimizing the site or moving to a larger plan. In an emergency we may limit the site first and contact you right after.
Email sent from our servers must be sent through an authenticated account, to people who asked to hear from you, with an honest sender and subject line, and with a working way to unsubscribe for any bulk or marketing message. Keep your mailbox and website passwords strong. If an account is compromised and starts sending spam, we will suspend sending right away to protect everyone’s mail delivery.
Keep your site secure
You are responsible for keeping the software on your site (for example WordPress, its themes and plugins) up to date. If we find a hacked site, malware, or a phishing page in your account, we may disable the affected files or site and let you know so it can be cleaned up.
What happens if this policy is broken
Depending on how serious the problem is, we may warn you, remove the offending content, suspend the affected service, or close the account. We will usually contact you first, but we may act immediately when there is a risk to our network, other customers, or the public, or when the law requires it.
Reporting abuse
To report spam, phishing, malware, or other abuse coming from a site or address we host, please use the contact form and include as much detail as you can (links, email headers, dates and times).
